Adopt an orphaned orangutan
Orangutans are on the brink of extinction. Help provide the care and rehabilitation
they need to return to the wild.
The Problem
There are numerous threats to the viability of the remaining wild orangutan population in Indonesia and Malaysia. The primary threat is the loss of habitat with up to 80% of suitable forest in Indonesia and Malaysia having been lost in the past 20 years. Other threats, which often go hand-in-hand with the destruction of the rainforest, are the illegal pet trade and poaching.

Kopral update!🧡🦧
Many of you know Kopral, our beautiful #superhero. But for those of our new followers who don't, our dear Kopral is a double amputee. His arms had to be removed because in December of 2009, at four years of age, Kopral escaped the cage where he was being kept as a pet, climbed a telegraph pole and was electrocuted by live wires.
His 'owner' was convinced that Kopral would die. However, as he was still alive a week after sustaining his injuries, he brought Kopral to Samboja Lestari, where our extraordinary vets saved his life.
He made significant progress since, and in 2020, the BOS Foundation team moved him to a #sanctuaryisland. There, he can live a life as close to the wild as possible while still being cared for by our excellent technicians.
Unfortunately, in April 2023, the vet team had to bring him back to the Samboja Lestari clinic due to wounds on the sole of his right foot and fungus between his toes.
Find out how our beloved Kopral is doing via the link:

Today, let's #celebrate #WorldWaterDay!
#water is the essence of life. It serves as the foundation for so many critical sectors, including energy, health, and food. It's also essential for #biodiversity #conservation, which is vital to maintaining a healthy and #sustainable #planet.
With climate change impacts increasing and the population continuing to grow, we must come together to #protect and #conserve our most precious resource.

Let's #celebrate the International Day of Forests!
#orangutans and millions of other species worldwide can only exist when they have a forest home to survive and thrive.
However, with 10 million hectares lost annually due to #deforestation and approximately 70 million hectares affected by fires, it's up to all of us to take action and #preserve and #protect our #forests.
By working closely with the indigenous communities, we at BOS currently care for 265,225 hectares of rainforest and continue to restore vital forest habitats. Through this work, we protect and provide homes for orangutans while simultaneously fighting climate change.

Our Post-Release Monitoring team at Camp Nles Mamse recently spotted this #beautiful blue-patterned #butterfly, which shares its habitat with orangutans.
It is known as the common wanderer (Pareronia valeria) or kembara in Indonesian.
This butterfly species is sexually dichromatic, meaning that the males and females come in different colours. The male kembara has striking blue wings, while the females have wings that are much lighter in colour and sometimes have bright yellow features.
#borneo has a unique subspecies of kembara called the Pareronia valeria lutescens.
The kembara plays an important role as an indicator of environmental quality. Unfortunately, climate change continues to negatively impact this butterfly population by disrupting the flowering seasons.
