Pongo Award for BOS Foundation
We are proud to announce that our mother organization, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, and their CEO Jamartin Sihite have received a ‘2020 Pongo Environmental Award’ from the Orangutan Republik Foundation.
Every year, the awards recognize and honour individuals and organizations “that have contributed to the improved understanding and appreciation of orangutans and endangered species, rainforest habitat, and for improving conditions for orangutans and other animals globally”. The jury praised BOSF and Jamartin Sihite “for many decades of conserving orangutans and helping to ensure the long-term survival of orangutans in Kalimantan”.
Previous Pongo Awards recipients have included, among others, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation; Dr. Jane Goodall; orangutan experts Drs. Cheryl Knott, Ian Singleton, and Anne Russon; climate advocate Prof. Michael Mann; Netflix for “Our Planet”; GoPro Creative Director Bradford Schmidt for his film “Our Orangutan Brethren”, and Greenpeace and Rainforest Action Network for their many years of environmental activism.
By supporting BOS Australia, you directly help BOS Foundation in Borneo to continue their amazing work, rescuing and rehabilitating not only the critically endangered orangutans but also their alarmingly vanishing rainforest homes. One cannot exist without the other. But both are critical for the survival of us all.
The Pongo Awards will be presented online on Saturday, August 15, 2020, from 6 pm to 8 pm (US Pacific Daylight Time). You can secure free and paid tickets here.
